Fire Suppression System

The desire, passion and commitment to support the warfighter

Contact DSG

The US military currently has more than 20 groups of vehicle platforms using FSS (Fire Suppression System), AFES (Automatic Fire Extinguishing System), or AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam Concentrates) systems.

These include heavy combat, light combat, MRAP, light tactical, and heavy tactical vehicles. All have FSS with single or multiple cylinder assemblies that use from one to eight sensing elements that will deploy the extinguishing cylinders.

Defense Services Group (DSG) sells, services, installs, repairs and refills all brands of Military fire extinguishing cylinders. DSG is an authorized Amerex distributor and re-seller.

Replacing discharged bottles and refilling empty bottles for reuse or disposing of empty bottles and purchasing new ones is very expensive. A vehicle without an operating AFES must be deadlined, possibly forcing the crew to use a vehicle with less armor or less FSS protection to continue their mission.

Federally Certified Service Technicians

AFES equipment is produced by several different original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This adds to the mix of variables for different engineering designs using different agents, different capacity bottles, different valves, and different control modules and sensors within a vehicle's FSS.

DSG’s licensed, Federally Certified Service technicians are equipped to recharge and repair all types of FSS, AFES, and AFFF Fire Bottles. They are factory trained and are proficient in all aspects of OEM systems.

The FSS sustainment process is long, complicated, expensive, and convoluted, with much unnecessary handling by many individuals. DSG streamlined this process by having a team that can cut the supply systems 20 to 25 day return down to 10 days.

Hydro Static Testing

After a designated number of years in service, bottles or cylinders must be hydrostatically tested by a Department of Transportation-certified testing facility. This testing ensures that the bottle is structurally safe to use with high pressure agents.  DSG provides this service and a nominal fee upon request.

Some of our Fire Extinguisher Services are:

  • FSS and AFES system Troubleshooting
  • Monthly Inspections
  • Extinguisher and System Training
  • Extinguisher Demonstrations
  • Installations
  • Hydro Static Testing
